  • Snoozebrand

My dissertation focused on SWTs. Because of this, it is important for me to experiment with products that already exist in this space. While trying to reduce unwanted neighbour noise, I searched for a noise-cancelling solution and came across this product. It provides a useful example of SWT in practice, which informed the following review.

Upon receiving the Snoozeband, I was immediately impressed by the packaging. The presentation was modern, attractive, and clearly aligned with the brand’s aesthetic, creating a strong first impression. The design felt sleek, and the user manual was clear and easy to follow, making the setup straightforward.

However, the build quality did not fully match the initial impression. While the construction felt somewhat unrefined, the embedded technology was rather discreet and seamlessly integrated into the fabric, which did enhance the overall sense of design.

Functionally, the device connected and synced reliably. As a very light sleeper, however, I found the audio choices unappealing for sleep and they did not help me fall asleep. The product felt more suitable for relaxation rather than sleep.

It also does not significantly block external sound, instead projecting audio toward the ears in a directional way, similar to approaches used in wearable audio products from Ray-Ban and Meta Platforms. This differs from technologies such as bone conduction audio used in hearing aids.

Overall, the concept is comfortable and appealing, with reliable connectivity, but improvements in build quality, audio design, and sound immersion would strengthen the user experience.

  • Hibernation

I have recently been so tired, i thought it was me getting old but I’m not that old. I even blamed it on a hangover, but I didn’t drink that much. One of my carers told me a theory that made a lot of sense. The seasons are changing, & us, as animals, are preparing for winter.

They’re prepared for the lack of food winter brings, & how cold the weather can get. There’s even a drop in metabolisms.

So us, as humans, in the autumnal stage which we’re in now, are getting ready to hibernate.

  • 4/5 – Sleep

We all take it for granted, but there’s a bit of a hype about sleeping better so to adhere to this hype, let me begin.

It’s best to wake probably about an hour before you’re meant to wake, something called PER levels go up, making your body temperature rise, and blood pressure too.

Preparing for waking up early, your body releases stress hormones, which is generally called “stress hormone” but can include cortisol, catecholamine (eg adrenaline) vasopressin (otherwise known as antidiuretic hormone) & growth hormone.

I try to turn my phone completely off when I go to sleep, so no distractions.

The type of bed is very necessary to get a good nights sleep, so that includes the right pillow (I really do sound like I’m selling some sleep product), mattress, duvet & even pillow spray.

Sleep scientists say that rapid eye movement increases your memory. So maybe I need more REM sleep. The only thing I do to boost my sleeping hygiene is put pillow spray to get me more relaxed, but doing this research has made me want to practice what I preach.

I do, however wake up quite early, without any alarm. So around 6 or 7. I do also keep a dream diary, to test my memory & try to see what is going on in my brain.

The oura ring (which I really want) is a great sleep, stylish monitor which has a gyroscope, heart monitor & other things. It’s Wireless too, so you can remotely charge it.

Our sleep has 90 minutes periods & then it starts again. So I guess that works the same when we’re aware; your brain can deal with exercises for up to 90 minutes, then it starts again.

I don’t practice getting a lot of sleep though, but I do appreciate all the science, so it’s my goal to get a more healthy sleep system.
