  • Remembering

There’s not really a method of how I remember things, they just seem to come to me. I just can’t explain how, I tend to write rhings down, then research the thought further. I have become obsessed with recording things down.

I guess that’s what I am doing with this blog, to digitally document everything, & to note what I’m thinking or doing, I guess it’s for the future Leuty.

So for example I heard a song earlier, I knew the lyrics & the tune, but not what the song was called. So I typed in the lyrics which I knew, into google & I got my answer. For your information (& for future Leuty’s information) the song was James Brown, “it’s a man’s world”.

  • Mums

As much as we love them I think everyone has a complex relationship with their mum. I think it’s very true that we all love/hate them. Emphasis on the slash.

What is aling me at the moment is my mum doesn’t understand that I’m in a position where my brain is trying to play catch up with my body. The body & the brain are in 2 different time zones, & my brain age is moving very fast. She keeps on saying how I’m always grumpy, but I disagree, & I can always complain about her in my blog, she’s a technophobe so she’ll be none the wiser.

My blog is how I see it as my therapy, it’s where I can denote all my thoughts & feelings. I can have a good documentation of. All my doings & how I felt, if I want a reminder. & it’s actually helping my career, I believe. Because I want to be an advocate for brain injury victims. So doing my blog, I perceive it as my therapist, it helps me offload my emotions.

I know that the title of this post was “mums”& I’ve barely talked about my mum, I think that I got my point across though, to concentrate, I love/hate my mum.

  • Falling In Love Again

One good thing about this brain injury is I get to discover things the original Leuty knows she loved.

Things that I know I love, I get to revisit again, just a little different.

Like books, films, music, food, drink, sports, the list goes on & on.

One thing I’m experiencing things right now, I get to feel like I’m seeing it for the first time, is being able to discover my town as a tourist.

It’s very fortunate that I have a lot of foreign careers, so I get to experience this city as a tourist, & with them as a friend.

I really enjoy being able to revisit a lot of culture the original Leuty seems to like. It’s very fortunate that I kept a lot of CDs, DVDs & books, which has meant I can revisit them, & probably fall in love with them again, just in a different way.

  • Fashion

For someone who’s in the fashion industry it’s I tonic that I have a condition where I try to record everything.

    Hopefully it’ll make me unique.

Fortunately, the fashion industry is visually focused so it doesn’t matter if I’m monotonous, just as long as I keep on producing things with the novelty appeal.

  • Who Am I?

What we all ask is “who am I?”. That’s not literal but I guess hypothetical. The question that we’re all asking is how do you be a person?

Literally my name is Leuty Parker, but it’s more about finding our place on this planet.

I am a daughter & a sister but along with all of those things I am a brain injury survivor. I’m going through the long process of rehabilitation. This brain injury has allowed me to learn everything again, so anything I wasn’t happy about in the old Leuty, I can learn to do it differently.

What I come to understand is I have a body of a mature woman, but the brain is at a different age. So I think that my brain at this moment is @ age 14/15. I’m going through puberty again. Mental puberty, I guess.

I’m so glad that I can disclose all my thoughts & feelings in this blog. I have some aspirations that I want to achieve, I just need to recover, & this blog is my way.

Hopefully this blog will inspire others who have had brain injury, or even their careers, family or friends & help others understand what I’m going through. I have definitely found that I have been my own worst enemy.

  • 9/6- Remembering

I have a lot of external memory aids which I don’t credit at all, which I really should. Especially for other people who are in the situation I’m in who can learn from me.

Anyone who’s had a TBI becomes obsessed with recording (this blog is my way of recording).

I have diary, sometimes a dream diary. Which reminds me of certain daily activities.

Sometimes I just find it in my brain somewhere. I’m just going through the process of relearning everything I once knew.

I find that when I try hard, I can actually remember. So if I learnt it before, it’s in there somewhere.

What I learnt is that us, as humans, have very fastidious organs. You either “use it or loose it”.

  • 7/6- Inspiration

I was watching this Louis Thorough thing about people with TBIs & I got about half way through, & it made me feel so hopeless

    I felt depressed that I was in a situation which just seems endless, but watching this really gave me hope, & I hope it will do the same for you;

I complained to a friend about how I felt so hopeless & stuck,& he sent me that YouTube video while really gave me hope. I’m in a really shit situation now but I have just got to believe that ones brain can really be unstoppable.

  • 7/6- Coke

A while back, coke experimented with their recipe & branded their new stock as ‘new coke’. It didn’t make as big an impact as the owners thought though.

Although everyone preferred the old recipe to new coke, they couldn’t call what the people preferred as ‘old coke’ mostly because it’s connotations. Coke has built a reputation which you can’t just buy.

Instead of branding it as ‘old Coke’ they branded it as original coke.

I, myself, love Diet Coke. I guess we all have our vices. I, like coke, am reinventing myself. I can never be the old Leuty, & she is desperately trying to get out. The new Leuty will be as good, if not better. The same Leuty is in there, somewhere. Do what coke did & make the new Leuty into an original Leuty.

  • 8/6 – Cold Showers

On most days I have one shower in the morning & one before bed. I normally like my shower at the hottest temperature it will go, but thinking about it more, what do we want showers to do to us anyway? Obviously make us clean, but for the morning ones to wake us up.

This morning I put my shower on the lowest it would go & wow did it wake me up! Certainly a shock to the system.

It kind of blends the physical & mental parts of your brain. Physically the cold shower made me feel a shock to my system, very uncomfortable. Mentally my brain is trying to stop my body being cold.

I guess it’s a good fight or flight response.

Since my cold morning shower, it made me much more aware of my goings on. Mentally more sensitive & more perceptive & it really made me more focussed.
