2/6 – Blogging
I think that blogging is my way of logging my discoveries.
It can hopefully help others in my situation, who had a brain injury. It is really true that I need to stop comparing the old Leuty who I thought was more clever, pretty & social, stop trying to recreate that, & create a better, new version of me!
Stop trying so hard to regain what I once excelled at before & create a new super Leuty. That sounds like a super hero though.
I’ve always been very determined, I should stop trying to be “better” & be satisfied with what is happening now.

1/6 – My Beautiful Broken Brain
I watched this brilliant documentary which really hit home. It was about a woman who had a strong resemblance to exactly what I’m going though, expanding about her long recovery experience.
Lotje is kind of like Leuty!
She had a stroke though, whereas I had a traumatic brain injury (both brain damage). Another new normal I have to relearn (or remaster) is my diabetes.
I guess my way of dealing with my brain injury is writing this blog. (The film was recommended to by a friend, allowed Ezz) & from how he described it, it sounded just like my story.
She says this which is how I feel “I’m obsessed with recording everything but unable to remember anything” . I guess that’s what I’m trying to do with my blog; record everything I’m going through, because it’s a way to get out of isolation.
It does have a happy ending, the success of the film shows her determination & perseverance can help you achieve your goals .
It’s really interesting & good news! It’s on Netflix so check it out now.
One good thing is it’s time, content & platform. A film telling a true story about someone who has a brain injury. It has been let on Netflix at a time when the whole world is addicted to Netflix. I, too, find myself often blogging about some film, & saying that it’s convenient for my readers cause it’s on Netflix, so it’s a perfect combination.
Bluntly, watch it

20/5 #2- Epiphany
I just had a conversation which led me to this epiphany. I need to find my USP (unique selling point). It’s very nice that I’m so committed to my blog & try to promote it all the time but what am I trying to achieve?
Well I ask myself this so I guess I’ll answer.
Firstly, it keeps me busy & I do it almost every day.
I think my personality is quite interesting. I have more to say than just “hi”.
It is a good way to meet me digitally.
For people who’re studying psychologically, I consider myself as a nice and interesting use case.
I have some friends who I think care about my well-being, & I want them to show that I care about them too.
I hope that others who are in my situation (who have suffered a brain injury) can empathise, use me as a symbol of hope.

14/4 – Put yourself in my shoes
A great analogy to describe my situation right now which will allow you to put yourself into my shoes it is; remembering, for me (particularly details of my past life) is as if you try writing with your non-dominant hand. Just try it! It’s, it’s mentally & physically very difficult.
I’m trying to build a new normal, to build a routine so my brain doesn’t have to think about the things I do, I hope they become like an automatic reaction. A different analogy for this is riding a bicycle. You learn how to do it, & once you’ve learnt, you don’t think about it.

31/3- Studying Psychology
I didn’t have this thought until recently, but there’s a whole different audience I have.
I watched a really interesting movie which I’d highly recommend. It’s not on Netflix so it a bit of a bitch to watch though. Its called “Memento” It tells the story of a guy who has a brain injury, so his short term memory is pretty much nonexistent.
In my case, those people are those who’re interested in my blog, because I’ve had a brain injury & this is how I’m getting through it. My thoughts are that these people may be studying neuroscience. My friend who I was talking to on the phone said he studies neuropsychology so he’s interested how things make me feel. Thinking of how people feel is important, in my case, fashion. We like to know, psychologically what is behind the product. Art, itself, sells itself through its hidden meanings, & fashion is the modern day “art”.
That’s what every designer needs to do; focus on the second, less obvious market.

27/3 – The Prefix “re”
I have found that there’s a lot of “re”s in my life right now, meaning I have a lot to do again.
This is me learning things agains, or RElearning. It’s what I consider to be the new Leuty , trying to get the old Leuty again. It’s my voyage of discovery where I’m building the new me.
To start with I’m releasing how to walk again. The best analogy is walking, for me, is like writing with your non-dominant hand. Mentally & psychologically challenging.
Another, less physical thing is to practice my memory. I keep a diary, trying to record what I’ve done each day, & I test myself about what I had for lunch the day before.

25/2 – music
Particular songs remind me of my old life. I have a very musical brain, particularly for someone who doesn’t work in an audio field. I say things like “the crab smells loud”. Using the word “loud” evokes that your ears are affiliated but it’s physically impossible for something to smell loud, what I really meant was that the crab is very pungent.
I have no favourite band but I have been encouraged to dance, because I find it very difficult to walk. So I do dance, telling myself it’s working towards me walking. It has been suggested that I make a “make Leuty dance” playlist. Even though I don’t have a particular favourite band this playlist will definitely involve Chic.
It is very interesting what dancing does to your brain. Not only does it private physical exercise but it gives you something new to learn.
