    This time has come by again and again the trainers that I loved so much that I spend a ludacris amount of moneyon, continues to integrate. For a high price one he doesn’t expect such poor quality. I would really expect the development for such a premium product to be a higher standard.

  • Because AI is so woke right now

    You’ve likely noticed I’ve shared plenty of posts about AI, it’s a key part of my niche, blending fashion with technology alongside content on health maintenance (diabetes and TBI). This post continues that focus, while also keeping readers up to date with developments from a more professional perspective.

    Speculation has increasingly shaped global markets since the 1980s, as investors discovered that hype can generate greater returns than underlying business performance. This dynamic fuelled a series of boom-and-bust cycles — from the dot-com era to cryptocurrencies, NFTs and now AI — with AI investment currently driving much of the recent growth in the S&P 500. Yet, like previous speculative waves, signs suggest the AI surge may also be vulnerable to correction, even as investors begin searching for the next trend to replace it.

    My interest in the automotive industry developed during a university module focused on Nissan, where I explored the company’s growing investment in autonomous vehicle technology. Using this industry. Tesla was a particular interest in innovative design and iteration with technology….

    Tesla is facing major challenges, including falling demand and heavy price cuts in the UK to attract customers. The company’s valuation largely depends on investor belief that it will succeed in autonomous driving, but confidence has been shaken by a disappointing Robotaxi rollout and criticism of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology.

    Unlike competitors such as Waymo, which use multiple sensors (cameras, radar, lidar), layered AI systems, detailed maps, and built-in safety redundancies, Tesla relies on a simplified approach. Its FSD system primarily depends on camera vision with minimal redundancy or external safety layers, increasing the burden on AI perception and decision-making.

    Philosopher Luciano Floridi argues this design choice may present fundamental limitations, raising doubts about whether Tesla’s strategy can reliably achieve fully autonomous driving.

  • Cinderella Explained

    I assume most people know Cinderella…

    A story about a girl ground down by neglect and cruelty who gets one brief night of escape, glitter, and possibility.

    She steps out of the ashes and into candlelight, into music, into being seen. Then midnight comes. The carriage splinters back into a pumpkin, the silk collapses into rags, and the illusion dies.

    All that remains on the cold palace floor is a single glass slipper, fragile, sharp, but unmistakably real.

    It is not costume or disguise, but proof. The slipper holds the shape of her foot like memory holds the shape of truth. It cannot belong to anyone else.

    Everything borrowed disappears, but identity does not. The world can take the magic, the beauty, the moment. But it cannot erase the fit of who she is.

  • Intervention design

    I’ve been thinking about design not just as something we make, but as something we do in relation to other people. Recently, I came across the idea of Intervention Design, and it resonated with me in a way that feels both professional and deeply human.

    For me, the concept isn’t really about products, services, or even innovation in the traditional sense. It’s about intentional presence and care as forms of intervention within real systems — families, communities, relationships, and cultures.

    Reading Aram Saroyan Armstrong’s reflections on chosen fatherhood and caregiving made me reconsider what intervention can look like. Not dramatic change, not authority, not recognition — but consistent, grounded support over time. The kind of care that quietly stabilises things. The kind that often goes unnamed.

    What struck me most was the idea of love as infrastructure — something steady and structural rather than emotional or abstract. Caregiving, in this sense, becomes a form of design work: shaping environments where people feel secure, supported, and able to grow.

    This reframes intervention as something relational and bottom-up, rather than imposed from above. It challenges assumptions about masculinity, responsibility, and what it means to contribute meaningfully to other people’s lives.

    The more I sit with it, the more I realise that some of the most powerful interventions are invisible. They happen in everyday decisions to show up, to help, to remain present, and to take responsibility without needing ownership.

    Maybe design, at its core, isn’t always about creating something new —

    sometimes it’s about sustaining what already exists, with intention and care.

  • AI in healthcare

    Ai could transform healthcare because care delivery has lagged behind medical progress. Despite advanced diagnostics and treatments, the system remains inefficient, fragmented, and burdened by outdated workflows. Digitisation, especially electronic health records, often worsened clinician and patient experiences instead of improving them.

    Historically, healthcare adopted technology in narrow, task-specific ways rather than redesigning care. Early AI efforts failed due to simplistic models, paper-based data, and a focus on high-risk tasks like diagnosis. Today, low-risk AI applications (like documentation, scheduling, and billing) reduce administrative burden, improve clinician–patient interaction, and build trust.

    AI’s real impact is in early disease detection. Using routine data like ECGs (Electrocardiogram… sounds like an octopus breed), AI can identify serious conditions more accurately than clinicians, enabling automated screening and preventive care. Adoption must be even, so involving doctors in AI design is crucial, and over-reliance could deskill practitioners.

    System-level factors also matter: dominant EHR (Electronic Health Records) providers control patient data, giving them influence over AI innovation. Regulators must balance oversight with the fast pace of AI development to ensure safety without stifling progress.

    The future for clinicians is optimistic! AI won’t replace doctors, just free them from routine tasks, allowing them to focus on judgment, ethics, and patient care.

    AI has the potential to make healthcare safer, more efficient, and patient-centered. By handling routine tasks and enabling early detection, it frees clinicians to focus on judgment, ethics, and human connection. Thoughtful integration is key to realizing its promise, and even though my interest is commercial and design, not medicine, these insights on AI in healthcare can inspire and inform how we approach design challenges.

  • ….. More in depth; AI in design

    One thing that has constantly intrigued me, throughout studying fashion design in my BA then going on to be a fashion developer in London and Hong Kong, and even analysing trends in my MSc in business, was what is woke in a population. That concerns the “what?”… but my pest career focussed more on the “how”?.

    Looking at the current “what,” this post focuses on a topic that particularly interests me: what is trending globally right now—AI. A strong example of this intersection between technology, fashion, and design is L’Oréal’s partnership with IBM. By integrating AI into beauty innovation, the collaboration enables more personalised, inclusive, and sustainable products, showing how technology can quietly enhance design and creative expression rather than overshadow it.

    IBM and L’Oréal are exploring how AI can transform innovation. Using IBM Watson X, they’re developing AI assistants that simulate complex scenarios—originally for education, like classroom interactions—but for L’Oréal, the focus is on cosmetics. Custom AI models can help researchers design products faster, more creatively, and more sustainably.

    Take lipstick as an example. Traditionally, it’s made in two stages: a highly opaque base delivers colour and a matte finish but feels dry and uncomfortable, followed by a second layer to improve wearability. The difference between products like Super Stay 24 and Mad Ink lies not in longevity—they both last—but in comfort. Mad Ink avoids the need for constant reapplication thanks to careful formulation.

    L’Oréal has always been a science-driven company. Early liquid lipsticks in the 1930s were little more than stains; later formulas were heavier and less convenient. Over decades, L’Oréal’s chemists refined these products through trial and error, testing everything from colour and texture to durability under extreme conditions. Every lipstick is essentially a piece of technology, backed by millions of data points.

    The collaboration with IBM, launched in early 2024, brings together two century-old innovators with strong scientific cultures. IBM works directly inside L’Oréal labs to understand researchers’ needs, creating custom AI models tailored to the company’s unique data. Unlike general-purpose AI, these models are smaller, faster, and more energy-efficient, allowing L’Oréal to leverage decades of research in a usable, targeted, and transparent way.

    The potential impact is huge. AI can accelerate product development, expand creative possibilities, and make innovation more sustainable. By narrowing the gap between imagination and reality, it enables breakthroughs that were previously difficult or impossible. This approach isn’t limited to cosmetics—similar AI-driven strategies could help clothing companies fast-track design and fabric development, processing vast datasets and testing countless scenarios to support designers’ judgment.

    L’Oréal also monitors early signals from fashion and social media to anticipate emerging trends, ensuring products meet both current demand and future tastes. Combining this with AI, the company is redefining what’s possible in beauty, showing how data, science, and technology can converge to drive innovation.

    From decades of research to cutting-edge AI, L’Oréal is not just a cosmetics company—it’s a beauty data powerhouse, using technology to turn ideas into reality faster, smarter, and more sustainably than ever.

  • Epi- vs pandemic

    To frame this correctly in the context of Covid-19, it’s important to understand the difference between an epidemic and a pandemic.

    Epi comes from the Greek for “ in addition to”, “I pon” or “ near to” so epidemic is simply something which is widespread generally an occurrence which is usually a disease at the same time.

    Whereas a pandemic

    The term pan- (as a prefix) and the name Pan (the Greek deity) have distinct etymological roots that have intersected throughout history, representing concepts of “all,” “universality,” and “nature” worldwide. 

    Pan- is a prefix meaning “all” or “every.” Whereas “pan “ comes from Ancient Greek pan (from pâs, “all”), rooted in the Proto-Indo-European pant-. Today it’s used to describe universal scope or total inclusion, as in Pan-American, pandemic, or panacea.

    Pan feels timely again: once linked to Covid, but now shifting beyond medicine to describe a wider cultural reality, where loneliness itself has become pandemic in scale.

    • Alice Wong

      Following on from my posts about surviving brain injury, I’m increasingly interested on where such a life changing experience is taking me next. My ambition still sits firmly in the wearable-tech-o-sphere (a space that is rapidly shifting from novelty to necessity). what  excites me is not just the technology itself, but its potential to reshape how we understand performance, recovery, and human capability.

      It feels important, in looking forward, to acknowledge the influence of Alice Wong, who passed away late last year. Her work showed how powerful it can be when personal perspective meets systems-level thinking and real action. This underpins how I want to engage with wearable technology: forward-looking, human-centred, and designed for lasting relevance rather than short-term hype. The future of wearables will belong to those who build with intention and that’s where I see myself contributing!

      Alice Wong (1974–2025) was an American disability rights activist, writer, community organiser and, in general, inspiring human being.

      She dedicated her work to confronting systemic ableism and amplifying disabled voices through storytelling and advocacy.

    • Disappointment

      If you’ve read some of my more recent posts—“I’m an Unexpected Target Market” in particular—you’ll already understand the depth of my (admittedly embarrassing, yet entirely sincere) adoration for my Christian Louboutin trainers. Which is precisely why this experience has been such a let-down.

      This brand has a long-established reputation for producing premium footwear, particularly high heels. However, its experience with my trainers is comparatively limited.

      Given the lengths I went to to acquire these trainers, beautiful! Comfortable, and carrying an admittedly embarrassing price tag tthey once held a shining place in my heart.

      I am writing this after noticing a few months after purchase, that several details had begun to deteriorate! This is something clearly documented in the accompanying photographs. There is visible scratching to the leather at the toe, exposing the white exterior and revealing the red mid-layer beneath.

      Additionally, the red design elements appear to be wearing away, and the Louboutin logo has already begun to peel off.

      At this price point, this level of deterioration is not something one would expect from the Christian Louboutin brand, given the reputation it has built. Having worked in women’s wear garment design, I am well aware of the extensive development, testing, and refinement that should underpin products positioned at this level. In this case, however, the development of these footwear pieces appears to fall short of that standard.

      From a place of genuine adoration, I have arrived at deep disappointment—and, frankly, a degree of embarrassment. Having parted with such a substantial sum for a product that now appears faulty, I feel misled rather than indulged. On this basis, I would strongly caution others against purchasing this product from the brand.
