It was the 1970s, & all NASA employees were required to motion about wielding broomsticks to detect invisible fires.
It was proven that using liquid hydrogen provides a great source of fuel for rocket launches. It is, however, very flammable (burning at 5000oc) & vey temperamental.
Hydrogen (H) is the 1st element in the periodic table, so it’s very very small. & because of the size, it tends to leak.
