  • Cinephile

For those who don’t know what that is, it’s a word lover.

So for the real content of this post:

A “betsubara”(had to retype that a lot) is a woman who always has room for desert.

I think that is probably just human psychology….

  • Apocolocyntosis

Instead of “apotheosis”, which means turning into a god, Claudius, who was a Roman emperor, turned into a pumpkin.

So “Apocolocyntosis” means to turn into a pumpkin.

  • The Case of the Incredible Changing Woman

A friend sent this to me & it really spoke to me. It’s very like my situation but my name is Leuty, not Vera,& I’ve had a TBI, not brain cancer.

“Vera, a young victim of brain cancer, volunteers to undergo some new and experimental treatments. The treatments cure her cancer but they have profound side-effects. One effect is that she gradually loses her memories. She loses them in the order she acquired them, so that in thirty years, she will have a completely new set of memories. Another effect is that her personality gradually changes, so that in thirty years she will have an entirely new personality.

It has been 40 years since the cancer treatments. The body that is continuous with Vera’s is now 55 years old and has a completely new set of memories and a completely new personality, not to mention a new name. If asked, “Melissa” says she thinks of Vera like a grandmother, and knows about her only what people have told her. Does Vera still exist? It might be tempting to reply that there is a different person only in the weak sense. But this case involves changes much more radical than would normally occur. The changes are gradual, and there are enough similarities over any ten year period that the same person can be said to exist during that time. But by the time that 30 (let alone 40) years have passed there seems to be a different person, and not just in the weak sense.

If Vera gradually lost her memories but the rest of her personality remained intact, then we would be much more inclined to say that she remains the same person (in the strong sense) 40 years later. Perhaps what this shows is that the Memory Theory is inadequate not because it denies that same personhood is transitive (it is correct to deny that), but because it leaves personality out of the analysis. But before injecting personality into the analysis, there are two other objections to Memory Theory we should consider…”

  • The Diabetic Brain

I’m reading this book now called “the buying brain” and I have noticed how my emotions relate to my blood sugar, so did a take on that; the diabetic brain.

I do this as I don’t think I’m the only one who has these reactions, I just have diabetes & a platform which can be accessed by many people.

    So I’ll I’ll do a brief introduction.

When my blood sugar is high (above 14 mm/l) I feel very anxious. Nervous & irritated. I really get impatient, that I want this to end. I don’t feel physically anything apart from a bit tired. when it’s high the symptoms are so much less obvious(maybe less emotional) than when I’m hypo.

When my BG is low, hypo, that for me would be below the 4 mm/l. It is much more physical so how I feel physically distracts me mentally. I get very shaky and tired, but not distracted. I am very focussed “focused” is the best word to describe it, on the fact that I should medicate the hypo with.

Future posts will be an update of my mental heal in how I relates to my diabetes, my diabetic brain.

  • Tinder

It disgusts me that the way my generation meets their significant other is through a dating app (probably tinder).

It is the height of technology social-ness,& offensively shallow.

Not that any of my readers are intrigued in what I have to say (of course you are, you wouldn’t read this blog if not) I am not just looking for a good looking PIC, but some form of emotional connection.

  • Pavlov’s Dogs

This was discovered accidentally. Petrovich Pavlovwas was looking into salivation in dogs in response to being fed. He inserted a small test tube into the cheek of each dog to measure saliva when the dogs were fed.

This is quite a famous experiment, I did a bit of research, and saying Pavlov’s dogs is a known phrase. I knew it was a thing butI read up on it, & it is very fitting to some of the methods I have implied to how to make me remember things.

As Pavlov predicted, the dogs made the association of food coming when they saw the assistant who usually served the food. These dogs started to salivate when they saw the assistant coming, making the association that food was coming.

I guess, with a Pavlovian response would be how I had a day for one of my friends. If it was a Monday, I would call & chat to a certain person. I created this probably subconsciously, before I knew anything about Pavlov’s Dogs.

  • Musings

    I got this from a friend, & I couldn’t put it better myself. It really does put what I’m experiencing, spot on. I have edited it so it’s more blog friendly;

TBI has erased a part of my memory, perceptions and patterns of who I was as a person. All of it has been erased. It is blessing, certainly in disguise , most people never have this opportunity in life to recreate, redesign themselves with the wisdom, intelligence, insights, and lessons learned. This an opportunity to dispassionately study the woman I am. An opportunity to understand what i liked about her, and what you disliked about her. As my memory slate is wiped clean, you can recreate who i want to be I’m going to work on all the things that could be improved;speech, drawing, writing, language, reading. I’m aware that i may possess newer abilities i thought I hadn’t had. I get to dismiss patterns of the old, and adopt the new ways, customs, and behaviors of th new me.

  • Covid

I know I said I wouldn’t tell my bad news, but there’s so little known about Covid, any information maybe helpful.

My bad news was… I had Covid.

I’d like to share is information about how diabetes is effected by the virus. Cause I think all diabetics know that if you’re ill, it affects your blood sugar.

I had no symptoms at all, I just got a positive lateral flow test. It pushed my blood sugar very high, around 21. To medicate it I was told to drink some water.

That is what I’m always advise to do with a high BG (when I know what I really need is insulin) “drink some water”. The best analogy is when your computer isn’t working, the first thing they tell you is “have you turned it off, & on again?”

After about 3 hours & ample attacks of anxiety, I was FINALLY given some novorapis.

So for any other diabetics or family members of diabetics, Covid makes your blood sugar act very irrational.

I have a Freestyle Libre, so I was keeping a close eye on how my blood sugar was reacting.

  • Bad News

So I got some really bad news today, & to get you hooked into my writing, I’m not going to tell you what it was.

To get the consumer’s eye, you must embalm a bit of intrigue. I bet through reading this whole post you’re wondering what was that bad news? Well I’m not going to tell you. Psychological manipulation, or maybe I’m verging on megalomania.

When life gives you lemons, take a slice with tequila & salt.
