  • Intervertebral Disc

I told you I’d follow this up in future posts.

Otherwise known as the vertebral column, this protects the spine. In particular, the cord that goes through the middle of the spine. This intervertebral disc is sandwiched between each vertebra & has a gelatinous part known as the “nucleus pulposus”. The nucleus pulposus has a cushioning effect for the spine

  • Right & Left Brain

I saw this great TED talk earlier today & it really inspired this post & made me want to share with my readers information. It talked about the brain, which made me interested because I have had a brain injury. I want to know everything about everything, too. I digress…what happened to the talker is that she had a stroke, which she went on to analyse.

A good analysis, focussing on those who know coding, the right brain is like a parallel processor & as it’s very different yet somehow the same, the left brain is like a serial processor.

The right brain is about the present. It’s is more about the senses, what the present looks like, sounds, smells & feels like. How I picture it is that the right cortex is the creative side. It thinks in pictures.

Left side of the brain thinks more linearly. Like methodically. All the things we’ve learned in the past, & uses that to imagine how the future can pan out. That side means that the person exaggerates their individuality.

A great way of putting it is telephone numbers; there are some people who remember phone numbers by what the combination of pressed buttons make, they are using their right side of the brain more. Some just remember the numbers in a linear form. These use the left side.

In this link it goes into more speech and language details; I have minimal damage of my speech & language .

You can see the full talk on the link below. https://www.ted.com/talks/jill_bolte_taylor_my_stroke_of_insight#t-274632

  • Smell

    Smell is certainly an interesting sense. It is the one that has such a visceral link to one’s memory. A single scent can really transport you to the last time you smelled it, or a flavour you like, or even entice a certain emotion. From this subjective view of the sense of smell, I’d like to promote this company;

There is definitely a scope for tailored perfume making.

In the brain the part which links to the sense of smell is called the olfactory bulb. The nose (where you grasp the scent) is directly underneath & linked to the brain. So the sense of smell can really evoke emotions in you.

  • Uni

Recently, I got accepted to a university degree in business & administration.

The actual degree is in the University of Central Lancashire & I’m pretty sure the classes can be accessed online, you just need to confirm you acceptance & pay a small acceptance fee.

As I already have a degree, this one seems not too much committed, & hopefully very much self driven. Preparing for it really gave me a lot of confidence; receiving references made me not believe it was actually about me!

One other thing that upped my confidence was rewriting my CV. Mainly because it made me focus on the reference & try to take a trip back in time, through my career.

On the 11/10 is that the initiation starts, but the actual course starts on the 18/10, so be prepared cause there’ll be some big changes in my blog.

  • Ataxia

So what I have learned about is I have ataxia, which led me know knew as much as a layman about it.

So what ataxia is, it’s where you have problems with your balance. That is not to do with the vestibule aparatus but ill go into that in another post.

So I have a big problem with my walking, I’m learning how to walk again. My physio told me about ataxia, & I guess that is what she thinks I have.

There are 3 types of acadia, but I have very few problems other than I find it difficult to walk.

acquired ataxia which occurs as a result of trauma (like my traumatic brain injury). Other nutritional problems can happen but so far the inability to walk is o the main one.

  • Tartle

You may know my nationality is Scottish… Scots really do have a way with words, this one is probably my favourite.

The act of a tartle is a Scottish term meaning you introducing someone, but pausing because you’ve forgotten the name of who you are introducing.

  • Kintsugi

The act of Kintsugi is a Japanese way of repairing pieces of broken pottery with gold. It establishes the idea of your imperfections can make you more beautiful. What was once a broken piece of rubbish has been made into something more beautiful, & actually stronger.

So, in my case, even though my a bit broken, the finished product will be different, but a different kind of beautiful.

  • Next

I got a birthday present which was muchly appreciated, for Next. I wanted to browse before I committed my voucher, but I could not use the website.

The online store was not easy to navigate at all. There was no ads, which was probably good because pop ups can be annoying, but ads are mostly where fashion gets its money from.

Just the bad experience of browsing online made me dislike the brand. I couldn’t navigate the website at all.

In a time which we are just coming out of (the pandemic) where all consumers are forced to buy their clothes online, the main focus should be on making the online store very desirable & easy to use.

It wasn’t at all easy to use & there was no attempt to make me want to buy anything.

Me being an ex-fashion designer I think my comments actually have some influence on the fashion world (who am I kidding, of course they don’t) but me as a consumer I have no desire to shop at Next, & I hope my readers don’t want to.

Spread the word about how bad this brand is.

  • Size 10

For all those women ( most men won’t understand) in clothes I used to be a 6 or 8 (very skinny).

I was in a coma for 10 months & pretty sedentary for a long time after that. So I gained a fair bit of weight.

So now like pretty much every woman, I want to loose some weight.

But there’s good news! The fashion industry seems to be following this trend in gaining weight. The models used to be paper thin, unhealthily so.

But now plus size models are getting more work. Setting the way for the place size models, Levis has a “plan prize” range, where they use plus size models for their campaign.

So fatter models seem to be en vogue. I, like most humans, have a strange relationship with my clothes. I have a lot of clothes I had when I was a size 6/8, & now I don’t fit.

I found one pair of jeans which are pretty irreplaceable. They have my name embroidered up the side seam, but they’re too small for me. I do really love this garment.

So I’ve partnered with someone who’s a tailor, who I knew in my past life. He’s letting them out, so they’ll fit me.

I haven’t received them yet, but when I do, the pictures will follow.

Just to justify the title, I went from an 6/8 to now a 10/12.
