  • Scotty Cranmer

One of my friends came to visit me recently & told me about Scotty Cranmer & his story. He’s a really good example of someone who was pretty much at the top of his career, had a brain injury & did a lot of rehab, but he recovered with a LOT of determination.

Scotty Cranmer had facial fractures, a cerebral hemorrhage, a craniectomy (which actually removes part of your skull, where the brain swells against the skull)amongst other things.

How he got his TBI was when he was performing a trick on his BMX bike & the front wheel got trapped, so he crashed.

He had broken vertebrae, broken teeth & a brain craniectomy (which means part of obis skull had to be removed).

So quick, but completely changed his life. When he had his brain injury he was just 30, so not far from my 28.

Obviously I’ll do a bit of advertisement because I really do think he’s pretty awesome, so Scotty Cranmer still does a lot of BMX champions, he runs AC Action Sports, does regular updates of his YouTube channel, does plenty of mentoring & commentates several BMX events, for those who actually know more about BMX championships he’s paid attention to X Games.

  • James Jean for Prada

I don’t know how, but I remembered this collaboration & I got some pieces. It must have made a big impression on me; remembering it’s existence, the articles name & that I owned a pieces from the collection.

  • Walking

It’s incredible how many idioms are walking related.

When walking is so difficult, like how I find it now, is when you really focus on it.

Some good examples of walking-related idioms are ”step by step” “first you walk, then you run” or even “walking tall”. So walking seems to be central to our species.

I guess when you focus on it, you become hyper-sensitive to it, probably because all your attention is on it.

I myself am learning to walk. The process is very long, it’s a step by step process. Forget the pun.

  • Thought Experiment

I’ve watched this several times, but it really is thought provoking.

It really investigates epistemological questions. For those who don’t know what epistemology is, think “cogito ergo sum” or translated “I think, therefore I am”.

We carry the same name throughout our live, but are we the same person? One of the questions you’re thinking is where is personal identity located?

We are all captured in our own bodies, but where is our personalities? A way to think about it is are our abilities or technical capacities aren’t very important (like speaking a different language or cooking a certain thing).

It brings up the subject of memories… it’s kind of difficult for me because memory seems such an effort, I guess now it’s helped me work on my focus.

Right now I maintain a lot of friends from my old life, for me we usually communicate over talking on the phone, but the thought that our physical self is not what makes me me.

John Locke attributed personal identity is made up of sameness of consciousness. I guess that is what we think identity. That it’s a combination of values, inclinations & temperament.

We are a bundle of thoughts & ideas, & the memory of us is a lot more than our bodies. I guess that religious people would say the memory of us would be remembering our soul. Well, when I hear that I instantly think we all have souls, or is that sole? Cause it is on our feet.

To my friends I say, I’ve “lost my memory”, which is a very good way of what I’m going through.

In my case, there is a focus on my memory, so I fixate on things I can remember.

Am I still me, without my memory?

Well, I think I am, & I think my friends would agree. I do still have my personality, I just have a bit of memory problems. No

  • Wedding dress

I designed & made my dress & designed my sister’s wedding dress!

  • Watch this

I really don’t like to tell people what to do, but this is truly fantastic. When you watch it it’s very pertinent to what I’m going through. Watch it! (It’s on YouTube so if you have the internet then it’s available to everyone)

  • Romance

Ok, this post isn’t about romance per se, but about a piece of work you’ll like, which is called “Romance”

This is definitely an interesting collaboration, the work of Chris Craymer & a season by Mulberry.

Me & my career we’re having a conversation & the subject of romance was touched. I don’t know why but I remembered this Chris Craymer project called “romance “ & I remembered I really liked it; it’s so humerus, but still witty.

So to promote this collaboration, Mulberry used a lot of diversity in terms of models. it’s a good example of fashion expanding its horizons, making its brand more diverse.

Just an example is that Tommy Hilfiger doing a collection for disabled people, you should check it out, it’s called “Adaptive”.

On that subject a billion people globally that’s about 15% of the population are disabled in one way or another, so fashion should be the diversity rail laser.

And some of the most common aspects of fashion design are inaccessible to people with certain disabilities.

In this time of this collection, more brands have focussed on the issue of diversity. Even down to the small details like bigger zippers on zippers for hands that shake.

  • Superwoman

I just talked to a friend of mine & it looks like I was in a coma for so long, they were starting to loose hope. I can’t really remember anything about the coma though, it’s just quite incredible how competent I was after such a long coma .

No matter how difficult life can be (believe me, I know) you can still keep on keeping on. Recently I met with someone who is going to organise my care plan @ home when I go home.

He said he liked my determination, particularly because the first time we met, he tried to help me, he was the told by me to “fuck off”

  • Burping

Ok, this’d a touchy subject, but it’s one that I need to touch. I get offended by people who burp, but others help me to be more accepting. It’s more that I get offended from them not excusing themselves. It is just natural, after all. Everyone does it, just some are more audible than others.

I guess it’s just my background which is taking over me, I can from a middle class background

In guess me finding burping offensive sounds like someone who has something against the middle class, but I just want to be clear, I have no preference, I just don’t want anyone hating on me.

  • The Sun

It’s famously known to be a good source of vitamin D. This vitamin is helpful for your bones, blood & it helps you absorb certain minerals. I guess it’s safe to say it’s kind of a super nutrient. Even though it doesn’t involve any ingesting, you absorb calcium and phosphoru. Right now it seems like there’s a lot of sun in Scotland, which is good thing. It means there’s a higher chance of us binging on vitamin D.

There’s not a set amount of time they suggest for sunbathing, but they suggest at least 10-30 minutes every day. Those who have a darker complexion (unlike me) are meant to not absorb sunlight as much.

It’s kind of annoying that Hong Kong (where I used to live) seems to be a lot sunnier than Edinburgh (where I am now).

Apart from it being a mood enhancer, what comes to mind when I say “sunny skies”, cause for me I think happiness. Biologicaly it increases the amount of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is synonymous with happiness.

It’s pretty unsurprisingly serotonin levels are highest in the summer.

It’s been said that ample amounts of vitamin D results in almost 80% reduction in most sorts of cancer.

Ample amounts of sunlight can cause immune cells to travel quicker, I guess that is pertinent for me because I’ve got type 1 diabetes, so my immune system is particularly weak.

Even just the appearance of skin in the sun is more pleasing because it helps melanin. An increase of sunlight can increase the neurotransmitter serotonin.

The sun’s rays are strongest from 10am to 4pm.

All of the following vitamins are present in sunlight; Vitamin A, B-Vitamins B are all growth hormones, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Iron, Zinc & even protein (this surprised me)

I bet you didn’t know that sunlight is actually addictive. UV radiation releases endorphins.

No surprises here, but our biggest organ, the skin, absorbs the suns benefit the most.

So to sum up, it’s pretty super; provides heat, light, energy, vitamins & even nutrients. Studying the sun has really made me appreciate it more.
