  • Memory strategies

I got this & it’s good points to remember things:

The following strategies are things you can do inside your head to try to remember things:

    1. Attention – pay attention- focus on what is being said – reduce background distractions.

    2. Small chunks – break down information into small chunks

    3. Repeat & rehearse -repeat information over & over silently in your mind

    4. Make lists – link new ideas to existing information- make mental associations in your mind

    5. Make visual pictures- thinking of somebody’s name in terms of a picture will help you remember it

    6. Questions – if you are trying to remember something, such as a newspaper story ask yourself the 5 “W” questions; – what- where – when – who – why. Break down information into these categories. Use these questions like “coat hooks” to hang information on.

  • 07/01/2021 – Recommendations

One of my new year’s resolutions is to read a book every two months, which I’ve started. So here I will tell you what I’m reading & hope you like them as much as I do:

    • “The Brain that Changes Itself” by Norman Doidge (have the physical copy, reading it now)
    • “The Buying Brain” by. Dr A K Pradeep (I’m reading it now. I am thoroughly enjoying it & I know the author so I must have an ulterior motive)((I’m very interested in the brain & what makes us buy what we buy))
    • “Where Did I Go?” By Polly Williamson (again kind of know the author, never met her & I haven’t read it yet but I can empathise because she suffered from a brain injury too)
  • Perfectionism

I have decided I’m a perfectionist. I am insatiable. When people ask me how I am & I don’t want to be just ok! Well I guess my perfectionism is a double edged sword; brilliant work but insatiability, never being happy with what you produce.

I have got to remind myself how lucky I am, which is something you should do too. Things could be much worse. A starting course be thankful you’re alive. It’s kind of like thanksgiving, but I really to believe you create your own luck. Like right now there is no better thing to have a brain injury, when you have to relearn everything again. & you haven’t missed anything because nothing has happened.

This post is meant to be about music so I’ll proceed. It is an interesting subject. I should say that with some songs I can sing along to & I can know the lyrics just internationally without looking them. It maybe that words to music reach a different part of the brain. Even with music right now when I’m recovering lyrics are easier to learn. I can just remember the lyrics perfectly, the band name takes more effort to get to.

The name “Leuty “ is quite unusual, i am the only person in the world who uses it as a first name. My ancestors were the Leutys but it was their surname. Everyone thinks they’re the one & only but it’s pretty rare to find another Leuty, and I certainly haven’t!

There are quite a lot of places that go by that name; Leuty lifeguard station, which is in Canada, & Leuty mill which is in Leeds.

One thing I got for my Christmas was a copy of a picture of my ancestor which you can see below.

    Thomas Richmond Leuty

I feel like I’m an updated version of my ancestors because my ancestors used to buy land which they named after them, hence ,”Leuty lifeguard station”. Fashion has been in the family because I am in fashion I’m the most recent of my family & my ancestors were in the fabric industry. What I’m trying to do to the fashion industry is to turn it digital.

So,in summary i like my name & really feel it is sentimental and innovative. I’m happy I’m the only Leuty in the world.

Now is as good a time as any to set new year’s resolutions ; well I should reflect on what can be better next year & putting them here may help me focus! So I’ll list them; I must be more positive. I have to stop being so indecisive. I should keep in mind all my goals (focus on short term goals). I want to get better & I’m really focusing on it;I meditate & I’ve started this blog. & I’ve read a hell of a lot of books. So maybe that could be a New-years resolution; read a book every 2 months & you can vouch for that! I do have a lot of books which I want to read. & I want to drink more water (that is a lot more instant).

Having all this in mind, I wish you all Happy new year & hopefully 2021 will be a lot better then 2020, I do hope so!

This is my Christmas tree, with fairy on the top, which was given to me to protect me from evils

  • 05/12 – log 7

For some reason I’m having trouble publishing this post but I’ll persevere and write it again. So this was meant to be about reviews so I’ll review the things I’m into now. This morning I watched “Ratchet”. I did watch it last night but I’m watching it again to see how much I remember

Back to reviews. “Ratchet “ was good. It’s meant to be all the rage now and my mum says it’s about cannibals so we shall see . Shall watch some more later today.

So I got the wrong end of the stick. I DID watch Ratchet but it turns out it’s not the correct thing! Oh dear.

Today I went to the hospital. I’m ok, just a little shaken though. I hit my head but I cannot remember that much about it. In my opinion I’m already brain injured, why not put the icing on the cake? So most of the day was waiting in the hospital but before this I worked on my writing practice.

I want to give some gifts of drawings for Christmas because I now don’t do my shopping anyway & it’ll document for me, & others my progress. This blog is my therapy. It helps me reflect on what I have done on this day & how it has made me feel. What they advised me to do at the hospital is rest as much as possible. I guess sleeping cures all wounds. So goodnight.
