    Pineapples!

    Me at the pineapple

Once you have eaten a pineapple your body begins metabolizing. Soon it renders as harmless. After years of farming workers’ hands undergo great damage. It was once thought that bromeline (the enzyme eventually found in pineapples) exposure gradually erased fingerprints.

So pineapples can erase your finger tips

Sounds like the next Mission Impossible.

Mission Impossible; The Tale of the Pineapple.

  • 10/02 – Black Books

Because in this current climate the best thing to do at night is watch Netflix, what I’ve done recently is watch Black Books. It’s recommended on Netflix & I’ve wanted it all before but I thought I’d see how much I remember from the first time. It’s very, very amusing so I do hope that it gives you as much enjoyment as it has with me. We could all do with some light entertainment in such a difficult time, so enjoy!

  • H.M.

I learned about Henry Molaison, otherwise known H.M.

He had a bilateral medial temporal lobectomy which removed two thirds of his hippocampi. He did this in an attempt to cure his epilepsy.

He had a bilateral medial temporal to remove two thirds of his hippocampus. Seems like an awful lot to cure epilepsy.

After all of this surgery he survived!

  • 24/03 – Absolutely Fabulous

Because we all need a bit of light relief, I wanted to share with you something that really made me laugh.

It’s an episode of Absolutely Fabulous; this particular one is probably my favourite episode; it’s Episode 6, season 5 (the episode is called “Schmoozin”)

We’re in lockdown, all of us have found ourselves binging on Netflix & good news it is on Netflix!

Finding out the episode details was far more difficult than you would expect!

A brief context is that Eddie (the main character)is excited because Pete, her old boyfriend, started over in the house where they live. They say Pete’s in “the music business”. He gets introduced to the mother & Eddie says that he has found “the has the old Beatles tapes”. He worked in Abby Road while they were recording. Pete now works @ Abby Road, so that is where Pete, Eddie & Patsy (Eddies best friend) go. Eddie has organised a party for the finding of the Beatles tapes in her house. Elton John is meant to be providing the entertainment. Pete is overdubbing the Beatles tapes. He claims “we’re digitalising”

The end of the episode is that they talk to Yoko Ono on a video call. The party is for the missing Beatles tapes which they play & find out that they were recorded over when Pasty & Eddie were in the studio & Patsy, I assume, messed about with the technical equipment while the camera wasn’t on her.

The music starts in classic Beatles fashion & then, as it’s playing, they hear the recording over it. The recording over goes like, where Eddie is singing “I’m walking down the road” etc. It makes me laugh every time. You should watch it!

My take on this is, in the same style “I’m walking round the bed” in the same tune.

  • 8/02 – Feeling positive

Today is a good day! I’m feeling quite positive & yesterday was fantastic & the day before, I hope the trend continues. Today I can remember what happened yesterday, & the day before that, & before that. So memory passes the test. Another thing which was good was I walked (in secret) completely unassisted on several occasions.

2 things that annoy me while I was on every day are my memory & my walking. So I have mentioned both of those things, so I have given my reasoning for why this day is brilliant!

  • 25/2 – music

Particular songs remind me of my old life. I have a very musical brain, particularly for someone who doesn’t work in an audio field. I say things like “the crab smells loud”. Using the word “loud” evokes that your ears are affiliated but it’s physically impossible for something to smell loud, what I really meant was that the crab is very pungent.

I have no favourite band but I have been encouraged to dance, because I find it very difficult to walk. So I do dance, telling myself it’s working towards me walking. It has been suggested that I make a “make Leuty dance” playlist. Even though I don’t have a particular favourite band this playlist will definitely involve Chic.

It is very interesting what dancing does to your brain. Not only does it private physical exercise but it gives you something new to learn.

  • 5/3/2021 – deleting phone numbers

One thing I have started to do of last is delete phone numbers of contacts I have , It’s my way of ejecting them from my life, cause we are all addicted to our phones. So it’s a way modern way to eject someone from your life. It’s to force yourself to not speak to them. That is the modern way socialise after all.

Well that’s a bold way to do it. The phone is how we all communicate now. It’s the modern way of communication, especially now we’re forced to because of the government restrictions. Now is seeing like a good time to work in social media.

  • Destcartes

The view continued how pain is created in the brain in 1965, when neuroscientist Ronald Mezack (a Canadian who studied phantom limbs and pain) and Patrick Will (an Englishman who studied pain and plasticity) wrote the most important article in the history of pain. Wall and Melach’s theory assisted that the pain system is spread throughout the brain and spinal cord, and far from being a passive recipient of pain, the brain always controls the pain signals we feel.

I’m a sucker for Descartes, his philosophy really can apply to all of us. He was the one who said “cogito ergo sum” which means “I think therefore I am” which basically means I exist because my brain in thinking.

  • Verteruvius

    I learned a bit about Marcus Vitruvius today. His theory about architecture seems like my theory about fashion. He believed that when people are in a building they should focus on 3 things;

firmitas (strength), utilitas (functionality), and venustas (beauty).

I think I am the Vitruvius of our time. I guess I see what art was (he was an artist) is now fashion. Fashion is the 21 century art.

  • Clothes

Today I’m wearing some of my old clothes. It makes me think how much clothes really effect a person. It can effect their body image & psychologically how they treat themselves & other people. The saying goes “you can’t love anyone else if you don’t love yourself”. This is why I love fashion; because clothes have a lot of influence. Clothes can make you look how you want to look, & feel how you want to feel.

So now I’m wearing my old clothes, I guess it’s my costume. I’m getting my old self back! Through fashion!
