  • Authentic consent

Most people don’t really know the difference between “consent” & “authentic consent”, but for this generation, it’s really important. Particularly considering rape (not a popular subject, but I’ve never tried to be popular). A really important thing to understand, for both parties involved: both those who say they want it & those they say they want it from but (the receivers) but really, they don’t know. I’ll try & explain it so you can understand the difference.

With consent, most people can give that. This is when you have thought about the implications of the decision, to agree to it. Like an “educated guess”. Generally it’s enthusiastic and can be revoked if wanted at any time.

For authentic consent, however, it’s a lot more sped up. One doesn’t think about the implications of the end result. A bit like being too late to say “no”. This leaves a lot of space to be manipulated into agreeing, yet thinking it’s your choice.

Dangerous. Very dangerous. With a culture in which our population is going inyou need to be very careful. A good example is how instant social media is now in getting other people to do things what you want them to do.

  • Aubergine parmigiana

Today I really had a gastronomic experimentation, but am aware of my carb conscious readers (me being one, of course). So I like this dish, vaguely know how to create, & have assembled it here, all carb counted:

    1 aubergine (6g CHO per100g, usually 250g approximately 15g CHP)

    2 x tablespoon tomato purée (7g CHO)

Tin chopped tomatoes (total =400g 12g CHO)

You need a large baking vtray, I used a circular one.

First, chop the aubergine so it makes circles, about 1cm deep. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 200oc, or until slightly browned.

Then place half of the aubergine in the bottom of the baking tray & spread each slice with a small amount of tomato purée. On top of that, add the chopped tomatoes. Then do the same again. Same order, same carbs, same process.

Once you have sandwiched aubergine & tomatoes, top off with a sprinkle of mozzarella (0 carbs in cheese) covering the base.

When all layered in the tray, bake (after preheating) in the oven at 180oc for 20 minutes. 1/2 it too.

25 total carbs. Tastes fabulous @ exotic.

  • Online dating

I’m a total romantic, so hate the idea of how impersonal it is. However it is so improbable finding that special person, with a world population of about 7 billion. From my own thoughts, the line between “stalker” & “romantic” is very thin. For most givers they worry that it’s too specific, that they have put too much effort. But a receiver probably is flattered. I’m just speaking from personal preference, it may not be everyone.

Although romantic, meeting, then dating someone in person is the older generation though. Stats say that those under 30 (I’m 30…) have used or are using online dating or an app to meet their special one. This includes about 40% of 30-50s. Seems like the way in which we date, amounts a lot of things, is becoming digital.

I’m just an observer, so can’t speak from experience. But I know what I want. What makes you stand out? Be so special? Try romance. Make the effort.

My main incentive is to find a man who can hold my hand while we walk. That is bloody romantic.

  • Nightmares

I don’t know much about the relationship between BGL & mood, but for me it is very apparent. last night I had a nightmare, which affected my BGL, & it went like this…

I recently got a #novopen6 as I’m on fixed doses. I’m still learning how to use it though, but feel I’m getting there. The novelty is strange & scary though.

When trying to dial it up to 3 units (the dose I’m on) of novorapid, it somehow went up to 60. I only realised mid-injection, as it was taking so long to go down.

I took it out when there was about 10 left, meaning I took 40 units. This meant I was probably going to die. Either that or be drip-fed for a long time. I was so scared cause there was nothing I could do.

Fortunately, it was just a dream. On waking, it must have made a big impression on me as my BGL was 17.6.

  • Routine

I think I need a routine, everyone does, to get a normal life. I’ve layered out my own one. Week-to-week, it may vary, depending on special days (usually in my diary), but here’s just a basic day/week :

Wake up (usually 8.30) have 5x medicine (don’t know exactly which, but they’re in a blister pack)

Tidy room; make bed, brush teeth, maybe mop kitchen/ hoover bedroom

Wait for nurse, check BGL, have insulin, weigh out breakfast (42g bran flakes =30g carbs = 30g carbs) & eat

Sunday: meal prep; carb counted, what I have left in my kitchen.

Recreational activity (usually gym, work out plan in other posts)

Monday, go to supermarket, buying what I need for meal prep designed on Sunday

    Unpack & put away shopping

    Cook & eat lunch

    Uni work

    Dinner

    Recreation (podcasts/audiobooks/blog/calls)

    Shower (maybe)

    Podcasts/audiobooks in bed

Obviously this is just a basic, it changes with I have things on though…. Still a routine is good for me preparing for normal life. Having it down is like a “written contract”.

  • Agnostic

I’m paraphrasing, but this aligns with my beliefs:

Bertrand Russell – I’m technically agnostic, since I can’t prove the Christian god, or any other thing we call “god” doesn’t exist, I don’t think their existence is an alternative is sufficiently probable to be worth serious consideration

  • Clewless closet

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XNDubWJU0aU

For all my fashion readers, this is for you. After all, my career was, & will be, fashion. If you’ve seen the film “clueless” you’ll know what I’m talking about. If not, watch it, it’s entertaining. So as it starts, with real world relevance…

Chers closed actually existed. The technology is there. In the film, the clothes catalogued on a computer, but I think it’s more user friendly as an app these days.

This closet, in the film, takes clothes you own & styles them to suit your activities that day, preferences included.

With the rise of AI, knowing your style could be compromised.

Alexa Chung’s app called Villoid mimics this prop exists, but is much more based on how social media works. This app costs $3.99, not helpful for brits though. But depends on how much you feel it’s worth it.

I’m thinking my dissertation may be a version of this, but much more personalised. No spoilers!

  • Selling myself

Someone said something that really made me feel like a total failure. But, being a similar age to me I, thinking about it made me feel so much better. My observations may inspire you to relate to the positives in your life. They’re there. It does make me sound like I’m seeing myself through, turns out I have a bit of capital though. So, I’ll sell myself to you:

    I’ve done a batcholers , & in the process of a masters

    I’ve lived in 3 countries

    I’ve survived 3 comas

    I’ve declined a proposal

I’ve traveled all over the world; ones that stick out are Mongolia, Russia, Sri Lanka, Iceland, New York, France the list goes on….

    Obverse been a model

I’m now at a stage of starting a new life, a new career, a new identity. Do you buy??

  • Nature vs culture

It’s a difficult one… I know (& you know from past posts) that with dopamine, the thrill is in the chase. This probably goes for all humans. So it’s “objective” & is ”natural”.

But, more subjectively, I have found that usually, when I know the feeling is reciprocated, it intensifies. So is “subjective”, probably falling under “cultural” influence.

So will attraction, should you go by what your body tells you, due to dopamine release, or what cultural tells you, when you’re more inclined when you think the feeling is mutual.

  • Tartle

This is an amusing word with a great meaning. It’s Scottish, too, for added attraction. This, I wonder love to share with you, as it should be better known.

The world, in case you haven’t gathered, is “tartle”.

It means: the act of introducing someone, & instantly forming the name of who you’re introducing.
